Cyanotype prints

Combining elements of the “real” world and the “outer” world of stars, planets, and galaxies, the photographs in this series depict what life might be like if that fusion of experience were possible. Each image is a small journey into a world that exists only in the artist’s imagination.

These images were made prior to the advent of digital imaging and the wonders of Photoshop. Portions of many different 35mm film frames were exposed onto graphic arts film. After processing, the segments were cut out by hand, then collaged together on a clear plastic sheet. The resulting negative was placed in contact with a piece of paper hand-coated with cyanotype emulsion and exposed in the sun, rather than utilizing traditional darkroom tools.
